Pinewoods Harrogate
Reimagining Britain’s Kurwald
Client
Pinewoods Conservation Group
Harrogate’s Pinewoods is being reimagined as Britain’s Kurwald, reconnecting the woodland with its historic role in the life of the spa town. Rooted in pine, scent, shelter, movement and restorative contact with nature, the identity positions it as both a protected woodland and a place of wellbeing.
At a time when the health value of nature is being understood afresh, the Pinewoods offers a powerful connection between Harrogate’s spa heritage and contemporary life. Its story reaches beyond conservation alone, revealing the woodland as part of a wider healing landscape shaped over generations.
The project needed to make that story visible without losing the character of the place. The resulting identity, website and visual language bring together heritage, ecology, science and public engagement, creating a platform for walks, events, interpretation, stewardship and future use.
